Certification in General Movement Assessment for Infants

• Dates: June 24 - 25, 2017
• Co-directors: Jane Sweeney PT, PhD, PCS, FAPTA and Jan McElroy PT, PhD, PCS
• Purpose: provide reliability training and certification in General Movement Assessment, an observational tool for using body movement assessment to identify infants at risk for neurological and developmental dysfunction through 3 months of age.
• Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:
o Expand observation skills to include general movements in infants born preterm and at term gestation;
o Integrate into current assessment skills, the knowledge of general movements and their significance;
o Improve ability to identify neonates and young infants with movement dysfunction by observing general movements

o Greater need is recognized by NICU professionals for combining brain imaging with movement analyses of neonates at risk for prediction of neurological and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
o This course address the latest research and actual methodology for assessing normal movement and scoring 3 categories of movement impairment across 3 developmental phases in neonates through 3 months of age
o The leading researcher and professor in General Movement Assessment methodology in the world will travel from the University of Gronigen, The Netherlands to conduct the training.
