Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders & Treatment Strategies

Description

This presentation reviews characteristics of autism and the most up to date treatment strategies for people on the autism spectrum. Examples are used across the lifespan to help demonstrate how to help individuals long term and how to tailor programs based on individual needs and differences. Successful treatment strategies are reviewed to teach social and communication skills and work on behavior problems through several case examples. History, causes, co-existing conditions and prevalence statistics of autism are also discussed along with several resources.

This workshop will cover diagnostic characteristics of autism and how that relates to teaching and performing therapy with individuals on the autism spectrum. Many examples and videos of successful strategies will be shared throughout the afternoon.
