Creativity in the Classroom and at Home

Description

This workshop is for educators and parents in any setting. In the West, creativity can be defined as the sum of several factors, including content + style/preference + process + process skills + tools. In the East, it can be defined as our essence. We will begin the day by focusing on creativity from a Western perspective – by taking an inventory of our problem solving preference/style and using the results as a stepping-stone for conversation of a creative process. Next, we will learn tools and process skills for divergent and convergent thinking (i.e. how to find the problem using a “how might I” approach, brainstorming tools to train our minds to think differently, evaluating tools such as dotting, etc.). We will transition to a discussion on creativity from an Eastern perspective – we will practice mindfulness techniques that can enable us to pursue creative endeavors with calm and focus and befriend any resistance. Participants will walk away from the workshop with new tools and practices to nurture social and emotional learning through creativity and mindfulness.
