Building Resilience of Refugee & Immigrant Children and Families

Description

The Lurie Children's Hospital Center for Childhood Resilience will be the presenters for this seminar which focuses on how the current sociopolitical climate has affected marginalized youth, in particular refugee and immigrant youth and their families. Participants will learn what to say and do to instill hope, decrease distress, and increase a sense of control over their futures and environments. Additionally, the training will include how to identify signs of distress in children and includes information on the impact of trauma on professionals who work with youth and families exposed to stress and trauma. Activities focus on assessing compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue, and strengthening individual self-care strategies.
