A Little Hearing Loss is a Big Thing

Understanding the basics of hearing loss allows service coordinators in the Early Intervention System to support families fully. This class is designed to teach the participant the working of the ear, anatomy of the ear, effects of hearing loss and impact of hearing loss. The session reflects on what service providers can assist in habilitating these children. Knowledge of what deaf culture looks like, what it means to deaf individuals and how to support these families fully. Basic therapeutic strategies will be discussed so that a service coordinator can make accurate recommendations for the infant or toddler who has been diagnosed with a hearing loss. The presenter, a parent of a deaf child will provide valuable insite on the parent perspective of receiving and understanding this diagnosis.
