Taking Care of the Caregiver : Coaching Parents on the Merits of Self Care

Description

Taking care of the caregiver is a commonly heard phrase in the world of healthcare, families and parenting. While this concept is familiar and accepted, it is too often limited to being a phrase that remains in theory only.
So how do we take beyond theory, and coach and support caregivers in taking actions which will enable them to care for themselves? What constitutes 'caring foe oneself?"
In this workshop we will discuss such questions. There are many emotional factors and physical requirements involved in parenting. Among them are often feelings of guilt, overwhelm, not feeling "good enough".....not to mention the heavy lifting and sometimes lack of sleep! the demands of parenting can exact a toll.
How do we move from theory to practice, and support parents in taking action steps to care for themselves? What obstacles to self care might need to be addressed? How do we support parents in concluding that the strongest advocate for their child is a healthy, joyful, informed and cared for parent?
