Description |
This presentation explores AAC as a Developmentally Appropriate communication support in the birth-three population, as well as local AAC resources available for children, families and service providers. Attendees learned about AAC options from low- to high-tech, common diagnoses that place a child at risk for communication disorders that may indicate a need for AAC, as well as assessment principles for AAC. Evidence based language systems to support the unique needs of a beginning communicator are also discussed to ensure a child’s access to a variety of communication strategies. Finally, the sequence to obtain AAC systems via the state’s Assistive Technology process in Early Intervention is also addressed.
