Normal Language Development: Implications for Treatment of Children with Language Delays and Disorders

Description

The morning presentation will consist of a review of normal language development and a discussion of how typical development informs or selection of goals for children with language disorders. We will cover pre-linguistic communication in toddlers through language in the school years. In the afternoon session we will examine language development in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with a specific focus on the development of social skills. A variety of evidence based approaches to enhancing social skills in children with ASD will be described.
