Pediatric Sensory & Motor Skill Development

Description

This workshop will be an overview of a larger course. We will discuss common conditions/ diagnoses that are seen in the pediatric population including: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, and Sensory processing disorder. It will also provide examples of treatments that might be important for each specific condition. Next, the areas of development including fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing, self regulation, adaptive self help skills and visual motor skills will be touched upon. For each area of development the way in which it impacts occupational performance, red flags indicating potential concerns, and treatment strategies will be reviewed. The sensory processing portion will provide an overview of each sense, an example of a sensory diet and tips for incorporating one into the family’s everyday life, and numerous sensorimotor activities.
