Autism, Ataxia & NDT

Description

This 1-day intensive lecture focuses on treating the child diagnosed with ataxia, autism and spectrum disorders. Current research is finding that pediatric cerebellar dysfunction presents as complex involvement affecting motorical, affective, communicative and cognitive function.
Treatment principles will focus on the system, posture and movement impairments and contextual factors that affect balance, posture and mobility. Video presentations will be used to identify subtle motoric qualities that are indicative of cerebebellar dysfunction. A live assessment demonstration conducted by the instructors with a child with autism spectrum disorder will be viewed by course participants. Opportunities for discussion of movement characteristics modeled in this child and also seen in many students with similar presentations will be highlighted in the didactic portion of this course which will have a lab option on two additional days in two different locations.
