Understanding Tantrums & Meltdown/Rethinking Stress

Description

With a basic understanding of the stress response system participants will be guided through the distinct stages of tantrums and meltdowns. In this workshop we’ll use a sensory processing perspective to better understand what triggers a child’s meltdown. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, frustrated and even angry when a child is having a meltdown. It’s not pretty and it’s not easy for anyone to live through! By understanding these stages, some of the possible triggers as well as the felt experience of what happens to the body when feeling under attack and helpless caregivers may be able to adapt the environment and support the child having the meltdown. Our workshop day will end with a challenge to all participants to re-think stress. There is an amazing mind body connection that has been identified and researched. Together we’ll discuss ways to harness this new way of thinking about stress to help ourselves as well as the children in our care.
