The Hands-On Training is the third of three phases to complete the Neonatal Touch & Massage Certification (NTMC®). NTMC is an exclusively neonatal certification that combines a holistic, neonatal and systems theory approach to massage with an emphasis on families and nurturing opportunities, while elevating the standard of care that neonatal caregivers provide in their daily practice. The two days will utilize videos to sharpen participants’ observation skills of high-risk infants, help them identify common stress signs and caregiving activities that cause stress for both infants and parents. The participants will develop a more in-depth understanding of preterm and term infant development and how their touch, handling, treatment, and caregiving can alter that development. Specific techniques related to neonatal touch, massage, myofascial release, and trigger point releases will be taught to facilitate normal alignment, movement, and comfort of the high-risk infant in the NICU, while incorporate families in their treatment plans to facilitate parent-infant attachment for long-term optimal development.
