Trauma Exposed Immigrants and Refugees: Supporting Through Home Visitation

Description

This workshop is designed for program directors and practitioners interested in learning about culturally-sensitive home visiting models and specific strategies for engaging trauma-exposed immigrants and refugees. It will provide a discussion on the relevance of trauma on adult and early childhood mental health, the impact of pre- and post-migration experiences that impact adjustment in a new country, and the collective needs of new immigrant and refugee families with young children. Participants will learn about impactful home visitation services can serve as valuable support in addressing mental health needs among trauma-exposed populations through lecture and large/small group discussions. The session will conclude with a discussion of other considerations for working with trauma-experienced populations, emphasizing the importance of cultural awareness and mental health training.
