Manipulation for alignment of lower extremity using plaster

Description

The number of early application of foot orthotics is increasing creating an abnormal alignment and muscular
atrophy in the developing foot. The responsibility for medical teams is to provide appropriate education and
support to patients and families to promote normal development of the child. This class will facilitate
knowledge of appropriate age for basic manipulation of the foot to prevent further deformities. Early application, orthotics, or invasive procedures can harm the developing
foot. A general overview of the anatomy of the developing feet will be analyzed to address the initial manipulation
procedure when surgery can be prevented. A small group will allow the participants to practice and gain confidence on the basic manipulation using the plaster technique. Overall, a direct one-on-one instruction of plaster
application provides the best learning experience in order to be at the basic level for plaster cast technique. This
class will provide the participant with the greatest foundation in order to learn more advanced casting techniques. The management of some foot deformities using basic manipulation is the initial approach to improve
misalignment.
