Behavioral Reinforcement with Young Children

Description

The meaning of reinforcement is simply, “a stimulus change that increases the future frequency of behavior that immediately precedes it.” Kate Whitehead will be discussing the different types of reinforcers: edible, sensory, social, tangible. She will also be giving examples to the providers of each of type of reinforcer. Further, providers will be educated on the “rules of thumb” of reinforcement. The rules of thumb are as follows: reinforcers should be reinforcing, pair secondary reinforcers with primary reinforcers, reinforcers should be rotated, reinforcers should be given contingently and immediately upon a correct response, reinforcement must be faded, and the reinforcement schedule should be followed consistently. After discussing the rules of reinforcement, Kate will discuss the five different schedules of reinforcement. The schedules of reinforcement that will be discussed is continuous, fixed ratio, fixed interval, variable ratio, variable interval. From there, providers will be educated on how to chose the most successful reinforce and schedule.
