Deaf Culture and Basic Sign Language

Description

Deaf Culture: When families find out that their baby is deaf, it is important that they are aware that there is a Deaf community and Deaf culture out there. Conversations with Deaf adults and learning about ASL are just a couple of the topics that should be explored.

Sign Language: Teaching sign language to babies, even those with normal hearing, has been a topic of discussion for several years. We know that young children are able to produce gross motor movements ( pointing, gesturing) earlier than fine motor movements ( producing individual sounds like /s/).
