Treating Feeding Disorders in Babies Making Sense of the Mess

Description

This 3-day course is designed for pediatric therapists working with babies, birth to 2 years old, who are experiencing difficulty with the sensory and motor aspects of feeding. The ICF model will guide assessment and treatment planning with attention to all systems involved in the feeding process. Didactic information will include discussion of critical periods in the developmental process of feeding, identifying necessary associated sensory and motor components. The course will emphasize the importance of self-regulation, stress signals, swallowing and respiration in the context of feeding. Case studies, lab and practicum experiences will provide the participant a foundation for problem solving feeding treatment. A framework for integrating intervention strategies will integrate Neuro-developmental Treatment, sensory processing and oral motor strategies.
