Typical Child Development for Service Coordinators

Description

Service Coordinators are the first early interventionists to visit a families' home. They are expected to build a relationship with the family, explain rights and procedures, as well as complete the family assessment. So much of the initial training revolves around paperwork and policy and procedure, that we sometimes forget a main purpose of why we are there and that is to set up an appropriate evaluation team. This training looks specifically at a variety of age groups and goes into detail under each developmental domain as to what children should be doing. We will review key concepts such as joint attention, motor planning, and hearing and vision development. By understanding typical child development, Service Coordinators can more easily identify areas of concern and build the most appropriate evaluating team for the family.
