Considering Ethics and Boundaries in Our Work

Description

This training is the focus for the ICMHP Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants Retreat. Participants will be asked to complete a survey upon registration to gather case material to use during the training.

After the initial sharing of information around the state, introductions, etc., we begin with a Café type discussion of “What Kinds of Things Have you Encountered in your Work?” There will be specific questions that will guide facilitators. This will last approximately 1.25 hours.

There will be a power point presentation on Ethics and Boundaries that will last for about 1.5 hours. This will be focused on what ethics mean to a consultant, having a model to consider for our work, and what modifications we might want to consider to that model. There will be attention brought to not only the issues in the direct consultant/consultee relationship, but also to the different layers and dimensions of ethical challenges (e.g. issues with program that consultants are employed by, issues with program that consultants consult with, funder issues, etc.).

Following the presentation there will be facilitated table discussions around specific scenarios, with questions to move the discussion forward. This and the conclusion will last approximately 1 hour.
