Description |
This experiential clinical course builds upon Richard Schwartz’ Internal Family Systems model, the research of John Gottman’s emotion coach for parenting, and Myrna Shure’s prolific research on teaching children problem solving. Many parenting counseling session and parenting workshops focus primarily on the problem behaviors of the child, while the ongoing problems of the parent rarely are the main emphasis. This parenting model teaches adults how to consider their own personalities, and how their issues might be a powerful influent upon a child’s ability to resolve conflicts. Whether one teaches students, works with individual, parent or delivers parenting workshops, mental health professionals will learn a user-friendly way to interpret child development through personality mapping and problem solving dialoguing. The goal is to teach the best practices in child-rearing in the new millennium to students, parents and grandparents.
