What is Considered Progress in EI?

Description

In this workshop we will discuss the concept of progress in early intervention. What is progress? The "progress" of reimbursable healthcare and developmental services have historically been "judged" by being able to document observable, objective physical indicators. These indicators for early intervention move the child through a developmental continuum. This is still the case, yet in early intervention we also value progress in areas not so objectively measured. A parents' improved understanding of their child's needs, improved family harmony, more positive and productive interactions may be just a few examples of the "soft signs" of the benefit of service provision. These "soft signs" should be recognized as tangible positive growth for a family. This workshop will give participants a chance to discuss and share examples, and thus identify progress that is meaningful though not typically measured. Please come prepared to share experiences as this workshop is reflective in nature.
