Description |
This two-day course is appropriate for the physical and
occupational therapists and assistants who treat children in the pool towards improving their functional abilities both on land and in the water. You will learn treatment techniques to emphasize the strengthening and symmetry of the trunk while activating and strengthening the extremities towards an identified functional goal. A problem-based approach is used to determine the aquatic treatment strategies best suited to the pediatric client; based on their identified functional goal, the task analysis of that goal, and the impact of water on their movements. Treatment labs in the pool will assist in planning and integrating aquatic and land-based interventions.
Emphasis will be placed on experiential learning in the pool to practice techniques under supervision. Client assessment and treatment demonstrations will be used for group observation, discussion, and problem solving.
