Telling Stories: Helping Children Navigate their Social-Emotional World

Description

Very young children often don’t have the vocabulary to tell their story– that is, to describe what it’s like to live inside their own social-emotional experiences. Young children need effective tools to explore their social-emotional world: from sharing their daily routines to working through traumatic experiences.

Low-tech and high-tech tools help young children tell their story. Offered for practitioners and educators interested in learning how to use the technology effectively in natural environments, this workshop explores how the use of tablets, computers, smartphones, recording devices, flashlights, and other tools help children share their stories and emotions safely.

Low tech and high tech can be used as a successful intervention strategy to improve development in the areas of: communication and learning, expressive language, language comprehension, following routines, making transitions, and processing/expressing emotions.

This will be a BYOD (Bring Your Own Devices) and hands-on activities workshop. Please bring your smarthone, iPad/tablet, laptop, camera, recording device or flashlight. Strategies and techniques will be discussed for supporting young children’s social-emotional development, fine motor skills, and engagement.

The session will conclude with a discussion of how technology can support the development of young children’s ability to process emotions.
