Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia & Right-Brain Thinkers

Description

Visual-spatial learners have powerful right brain hemispheres, which think and learn in pictures as opposed to a step by step presentation of information. They tend to grasp ideas as a complete whole or big picture, and do not learn in smaller steps of drill, practice or repetition. These children often find reading or math challenging, as they are both taught largely in a broken-down, auditory sequential order. While children affected by Asperger’s, Autism, ADHD, & Dyslexia often fall into this category, compelling evidence establishes that a vast number of the general school population strongly responds to visual methods rather than the standard auditory method of instruction. Recent studies indicate that at least one-third of children in a typical classroom are strongly visual-spatial learners, and about half rely on both auditory and visual methods. This means that a substantial number of children learn best with the visual-spatial model, which encourages use of the right brain hemisphere.

This innovative new workshop takes you inside the mind of the visual-spatial learner to view the classroom and home through the child’s eye of complete concepts and pictures, instead of words. Comprehensive assessment tools will be outlined to identify the characteristics of the visual spatial learner. The sometimes overwhelming task of accommodating various learning styles will be presented in a clearly formatted and effective approach. Attendees will explore ways to build auditory skills while teaching to the visual strength of the child. You will return to your classroom or clinic with functional intervention strategies and visualization tools for more engaged students, learning more effectively.
