Fragile X Syndrome

Description

Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is the most common cause of inherited intellectual disability and the most common known genetic cause of autism or autism spectrum disorders. This two hour workshop is designed to address the unique needs of children who have been diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome in early intervention. Topics include: overview of Fragile X Disorders – the conditions caused by changes in the gene known as FMR1 – types, causes, incidence, testing, common health issues, facts vs. myths, supporting parental reactions to diagnoses, overview of developmental patterns of progress, national and local level resources, and supporting parent professional decision making within early intervention principles.
