Mothers and Babies Course

Description

Originally developed by Ricardo Muñoz and colleagues, the Mothers and Babies Course is an intervention program that promotes healthy mood management and maternal self-efficacy by teaching participants how to effectively respond to stress in their lives through increasing the frequency of thoughts and behaviors that lead to positive mood states. Based on principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, and psychoeducation the Mothers and Babies Course is designed to be delivered by professionals or paraprofessionals, and can be delivered as a group intervention or as a one-on-one intervention. Over the last five years, Dr. Tandon has worked with home visiting programs to integrate the Mothers and Babies Course as a strategy to prevent the onset and worsening of depressive symptoms among women at-risk for developing major depression. Dr. Tandon has also worked with Women, Infant, & Children (WIC) programs, community health centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, and pediatric primary care practices to implement Mothers and Babies.
