Incorporating Mental Health into Early Intervention

Description

This short course will explore the mental health aspects present in our work with infants and toddlers from 3 dimensions. First, infants and toddlers live in the context of their families. OTs working with infants and toddlers, therefore, work with both the child and with his or her family. This short course will explore how key concepts from the infant mental health literature support our work with children and their families. Second, this course will explore how infants and toddlers communicate through their cues and how these cues tell us about both their social/emotional world and about their ability to process sensory information. Helping parents read and respond to their childs cues as they provide learning opportunities is a valuable tool. Finally, this course will explore how the OT literature on mothering impacts our work with infants and toddlers.
