Using Video to Promote Inclusion in Early Childhood and Enhance Early Care and Education, Early Childhood Special Education, and Early Intervention Services

Description

Video is perhaps the most powerful tool available for documenting young children’s learning and
development. It enables us to record, organize, share, and reflect on rich documentation of children’s
skills. The ability to revisit experiences, relationships, interactions, and skills is transformational - it helps
us to better understand children, and collaborate, plan, and support their progress. This session will
illustrate how video enhances documentation, assessment, family engagement, planning, supervision,
professional development, technical assistance, coaching, and consultation practices. The participants
will better understand: 1) How they and their programs can use digital video to achieve better outcomes
by enhancing practices that support inclusive and evidence-based practices in early care and education,
early childhood special education, and early intervention; 2) The advantages and disadvantages of
recommended video recording devices, accessories, and applications; and 3) Recommended practices
for shooting, organizing, managing, editing, compressing, storing, and sharing digital video files. A
comprehensive resource guide will accompany the session.
