Level 1 Intensive Mentorship

Description

The SPD Foundation provides clinicians with a unique opportunity to receive training in assessment and intervention for Sensory Processing Disorder during intensive, one-week programs at the SPD Foundation and our partner treatment facility, the STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center in Greenwood Village, Colorado.

Working in a small-group setting (7-14 participants), mentees in SPDF Intensive Mentorships learn to apply clinical reasoning through treatment observation and analysis with experienced therapists. This five-day course includes a combination of lecture sessions by faculty of the SPD Foundation and mentored clinical experiences at STAR (Sensory Therapies And Research) Center. Participants observe experienced STAR therapists working with children in direct therapy using combined occupational therapy and listening therapy.

Active mentoring occurs before, during, and after the daily treatment session. Group processing/supervision guided by Dr. Lucy Jane Miller, Dr. Sarah Schoen, and our experienced faculty occurs each day after treatment sessions. Mentoring focuses on clinical reasoning, problem solving, constructive feedback, and note writing with an emphasis on clinical reasoning. Intervention clinical reasoning tools developed by Dr. Miller and Dr. Schoen are used to teach intervention and report writing. Participants are also exposed to the newest assessment tools.
