Autism Spectrum, Sensory & ADHD

Description

The diagnosis of Autism now subsumes Asperger’s Syndrome and PDD-NOS, with new reports by the CDC estimating that 1 in 88 U.S. children are identified as having an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Despite the overwhelming prevalence of ASD, the true causes of the disorder remain unclear and children, parents & therapists are consequently subjected to a confusing array of therapies.

This fresh one-day workshop was designed to integrate traditional & alternative therapies for the best possible outcomes for your children. Utilizing multiple video demonstrations, interventions as diverse as diet, music therapy & medication are explored. Behavioral interventions, such as ABA, are made applicable to the classroom and PT/OT/SLP office. The literature on Asperger’s Syndrome, soon to be called Level One Autism, has taken children thought to be cognitively and emotionally aloof and taught us to “enter their world.” This workshop will guide the participant through the Asperger’s child’s perspective & cognitive process, allowing the teacher/therapist to speak the child’s language. Social skills training, the principal treatment of Asperger’s will be thoroughly examined, as well as Sensory Processing Disorder and its effect on ASD. You will return to your children with a new perspective on these disorders, and the tools to identify alternative, traditional and behavioral techniques & how they may apply in your setting.
