Positioning Children

Description

Did you know the position in which a child finds him or herself will influence the quality of work they
perform? This workshop will begin with an overview of contemporary positioning practices that are
having a dramatic influence on a child’s early development which ultimately results in academic
performance challenges. When a young child experiences movement challenges due to a diagnosis or
developmental delays, their ability to attain and/or sustain optimal positioning is compromised.
Participants in this workshop will be introduced to concepts such as muscle tone, trunk support and
postural security. We will discuss the theory and philosophy that informs proper positioning for children
in order to foster optimal participation in relationships and learning. Together we will exam the various
types of equipment that is available for purchase.
