Reflective Practice Group for Developmental Therapists

Description

Reflective practice pays attention to all of the relationships involved in professional collaboration: therapist and mentor, therapist and caregiver, therapist and child, and therapist and other colleagues. Reflective practice supports personal and professional development by increasing self-awareness in order to understand one's own reactions, thoughts, and feelings that affect the work. Reflective practice allows a therapist to examine what they have done in the past and possibilities of work that they have not thought of within a safe and trusting relationship.
The IDTA is excited to bring the opportunity for reflective practice in your work with children and families. Our new pilot program will allow Developmental Therapists from the State of Illinois to gain a deeper understanding of reflective practice principles through participation in an ongoing, collaborative, relationship-based group.
Who should participate:
This reflective practice pilot group will be open to EI credentialed Developmental Therapists of any experience level who are current members of IDTA. This opportunity is being offered to IDTA members at no charge as a benefit of IDTA membership.
Why you should participate:
Reflective practice has the ability to affect how you think about your work and plan your interventions. Participation in one of the pilot groups will provide a safe and predictable space for you to be able to share your experiences as a DT without judgment and with the hope that you will build a mutually trusting relationship with all of the participants in the group.
This group will meet on a monthly basis over the course of a year on the second Monday of the month from 9:00-10:30 am (see specific listing of dates). Sessions will be held at CFC #12. Participation in the group is limited to 6 Developmental Therapists. Part of reflective practice is the ability to participate on a regular basis. Due to the relationship-based nature of this pilot project, participants must make a commitment to be on time and attend all 12 group sessions. Credit for participation in the reflective practice pilot has been applied for through the Illinois Early Intervention Training Program and is currently pending.
