Description |
Home modifications play a key role in the Early Intervention (EI) practice to facilitate children’s participation, performance, generalization of skills, and independence when engaging in activities in their most natural environment. The process of implementing home modifications should remain client-centered, beginning with a collaborative and comprehensive evaluation to identify children’s needs, depending on how they interact with the environment to carry out and complete activities. These needs should be addressed with appropriate solutions that improve functional abilities and maximize safety and independence. Modifications may target the physical layout, organizational system, and presentation of stimuli in the home environment and may involve additions, adjustments, or alterations. This course will educate EI providers on the importance of home modification and common changes that can be made to the home in order to improve therapeutic outcomes.
