Shifting Perspectives: Infusing Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health into Early Intervention, Education, and Care

Description

While we have long understood the importance and value of the family and primary caregivers in a young child’s life, many services and programs still provide therapy, care, and education in a way that centers around the child. Focused on the emerging understanding of the field of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and the key concepts that shape this work, this workshop will focus on moving from a didactic focus within a relationship with a family system to infusing a collaborative, interpersonal, relationship-oriented perspective into work with young children and their families, shifting the focus and the nature of the work, sometimes in very subtle ways.

Participants in this workshop will learn about Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, key perspectives and approaches that are characteristic in this approach, and consider how these ideas can shape their own work with children and families to reflect current thinking about best practice in these fields.
