Pay Attention!

Description

Do you work with a child that just can’t pay attention? As a therapist and a mother of a child with special needs, I’ve found that no matter what type of academic task a child is working on, very limited progress is made if they are unable to maintain their attention. There are many underlying reasons for a child with a fleeting attention span and many can be related to their diagnosis. I have presented workshops for Summit Professional Education for the past two years and have met some amazing professionals and parents. Most importantly, I have learned so many new techniques and I am eager to share this wealth of information with you!

Professionals around the country are finding out that the two most effective strategies to address poor attention are Multi-Sensory Techniques and Technology. Children that receive movement breaks and learn in a multisensory approach are able to retain information better. Many technology tools, which are huge incentives for children nowadays, can be used to increase motivation and attention spans while working on the basic fine motor and visual perception skills needed to complete academic tasks. Unfortunately, technology and sensory equipment can be expensive and hard to come by. This course will teach you strategies, where to find resources, low-tech options and cheap/easy sensory items that you can make for the classroom rather than spending tons of money that you just don’t have in your budget. Overall, I want you to leave this course with activities, exercises, and resources that you will be able to use the very next day to benefit your individual child!
