Mitochondrial Disorders

Description

This conference for providers of EI services and Service Coordinators will feature a keynote address by Dr. Mary Keen. Dr. Keen will speak on mitochondrial disorder; what this disorder is, current research on the condition, what to look for in children with suspected mitochondrial disorders and who to refer to when there is a concern. She will also cover appropriate treatments and what EI therapists can do to support development in children with mitochondrial disorders.

The afternoon will feature a panel of parents talking about their experiences of parenting a child with this significant disability. This facilitated panel will cover the emotions they have experienced when learning of their child's diagnosis, what their day to day routines are and how having a child with a severe disorder effects family functioning, as well as what they want EI providers to know about how to best help their children and support their families.
