Description |
This series will focus on helping Service Coordinators to have a better understanding of the Part B system and thus more actively involved in the transition discussion.
Now that Service Coordinators have a better understanding of the principles of IDEA and how they relate and impact children transitioning into the local school districts, we will be discussing how to prepare families for the actual IEP meeting and what follows. We will discuss how to help parents build positive, collaborative relationships with the school districts while still advocating for their child. We will discuss what recourse families have if they are not satisfied with the outcome of the IEP and what their rights are to appeal any decisions.
Finally, we will discuss past situations that have been challenging and how we can better prepare both ourselves and families to avoid those pitfalls.
