Mealtime fear factor: Helping children when food becomes a fight.

Description

The presentation discusses differentiation of picky eaters versus problem eaters via clinical markers, and incidence rates across various syndromes, medical histories, and other developmental disabilities. Assessment methods and key information including case history, feeding evaluation, and additional considerations are discussed. Possible diagnoses and how they present in children are outlined, as well as how to distinguish between various diagnoses.

Then the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to feeding treatment program is defined, treatment steps, goals, and specific strategies are discussed, and an example treatment plan is provided. Finally, case examples are outlined with visual supports highlighting the visual aspects to treatment.
