When Teams Disagree – Facilitating Team Discussion and Decision Making in Early Intervention

Families in the Illinois Early Intervention System are often working with teams of professionals from different disciplines and perspectives. As Service Coordinators work with families to build these teams, it is necessary to also build in the strategies and supports for effective communication among team members. This two hour workshop is designed to help Service Coordinators gain and practice the skills needed when team members do not agree or there is a breakdown in team communication. Topics include: teams vs. group of individual providers, role of Service Coordinator, strategies to facilitate team communication and consensus building, and strategies to repair communication breakdowns in order to support parent professional partnerships.
