PIAT Conference-Impact of Domestic Violence on Early Childhood and Parenting

Description

This presentation will address the impact domestic violence (DV) has in early childhood, and specifically on a child’s physical and mental health. Attendees will also explore the impact of violence on parents in two ways: 1) how DV during adulthood might impact parenting, and 2) how past childhood exposure to domestic violence might influence an adult’s ability to parent effectively. The presentation will cover how to promote protective factors, healing, and resilience in families experiencing DV, and will emphasize the importance of addressing the impacts of violence in securing positive mental health outcomes for children. This presentation will involve some multimedia and a lot of group discussion; it is relevant for parents of children under 18 and providers that work directly with parents in any capacity.
