Beyond the Screen: Using the iPad to Engage Communication and Relationships in Children 24-36 Months

Description

Offered for practitioners and parents interested in learning how to use technology effectively in natural environments, this workshop explores use of the iPad with children ages 24-36 months affected by autism spectrum disorders (ASD), sensory processing disorders (SPD) communication disorders, and other developmental differences. The iPad can be used as part of a successful intervention strategy to improve development in the areas of communication and learning, articulation, expressive language and comprehension, following routines, transitions, and emotional processing and expression. High quality, professionally tested apps will be demonstrated, while strategies and techniques for using the iPad, iPod Touch, and iPhone devices to support very young children’s social-emotional development, fine motor skills, and engagement will be discussed. The session concludes with a discussion of how technology can support the development of very young children’s ability to relate to peers and adults.
