Understanding GE Reflux and its implications for young children's development

Description

This presentation focused on helping Service Coordinators understand what is involved in Gastro Esophageal Reflux, and the implications for early development in children who experience the condition.

Dr. Keen covered the anatomical differences that lead to reflux and how the repeated experience of backing up of stomach acid can impact the development of feeding and also oral motor skills if children refuse to eat because they are uncomfortable. She covered the impact on hearing as well as the continual back up of stomach acid in supine children can lead to leakage into the estuation tubes causing ear infections which can impact language development.
