Where OT Fits into Early Intervention

Description

"This workshop will review the different components of Early Intervention; from DHS, where it all starts, to Provider Connections which is where therapists receive their credentialing, the EI training program for ongoing professional development, to the CFC's which is the entry point for families and where services are coordinated. The participants will be taken through the intake, referral, evaluation and treatment process. A variety of employment options will also be discussed including working as an independent contractor for yourself or for an agency and working as an employee for an agency. EI principles will be discussed emphasizing natural environments and teaching caregivers therapy techniques that can be embedded every day activities, routines and community based interactions. We hope to improve your knowledge as it relates to implementing specific Occupational Therapy strategies in the home and community as it applies to the Early Intervention setting. We will be discussing how to incorporate fine motor skills as fun and functional tasks. There will be ideas about how to work on visual motor skills through simple fun games. Techniques will be discussed on how to provide a sensory diet to even the smallest of children within their home environment with everyday materials. So please join us to share an exciting and inspirational session.
