Description |
This workshop will focus on use of static and dynamic taping techniques to facilitate improved alignment and muscle re-education for function in the pediatric population. Developmental and biomechanics in relation to treatment will be reviewed. Tapes and interventions used include: rigid and Kinesiotape, strapping, velcro patches with elastic straps, neoprene wraps, and compression garments.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
-identify specific developmental features in trunk, upper and lower extremities
-describe importance of alignment for support and initiation of movement
-explain the basic assessments for biomechanical alignment and range of motion
-discuss findings with problem solving and treatment option
-identify contraindications to taping
-describe the following materials: leukotape, hypafix/cover-roll, kinesio tex tape, fabrifoam, compression garments
-describe principles of taping as an adjunct to treatment
-explain the use of taping to improve neuromuscular re-education trhough alignment in functional activities
-describe skin care and tape removal
-explain specific taping techniques for alignment concerns
