Nutritional Needs for Special Needs Children

Description

The main objective for this talk is to provide information to parents, caregivers and therapists about the variety of nutrition interventions for special need kids. This includes kids in the Early Intervention population. Kids with health disorders like ADHD, or who fall on the autism spectrum, or who have food allergies. There is a growing body of evidence that dietary management may help in managing these childhood disorders. Some of the dietary interventions to be covered are the Gluten-free/Casein free diet (GFCF), Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), Feingold Diet and how to work with food allergies. Mischel will provide information about each of these dietary interventions. She will discuss how to work toward incorporating these diets into a child's daily life and resources for using these diets. Families are encouraged to seek approval from their child's Primary Care Physician before initiating any of these dietary interventions.
