THE IMPACT OF POVERTY ON YOUNG CHILDREN

Description

Typical developmental milestones for children can be compromised when their environment is impoverished. The risk factors that infants must overcome can cause detrimental impact on their developing brain. Some examples of this are maternal/paternal depression, insufficient nutrition, environmental toxins, risk of trauma, and quality of care. Our current economic crises coupled with a dwindling amount of resources challenge professionals across a variety of disciplines in serving a diverse group of families.

This presentation will offer practical applications in the area of child care/ early childhood education activities that would be appropriate in the classroom for all ages. It will also assist in communicating with and understanding both children and parents and will be useful for all teachers. This seminar will include lecture, video, small group activities and discussion.
