New to EI/Credentialing Hours Help

Our organization is growing and developing all the time. As we try to keep up with the ever-changing world of technology, we have posted some of the commonly asked questions regarding being new to the system and getting Credentialing hours.

Keep in mind, we also have an entire section for those who are New to EI. We recommend taking a look through the different sections on that page.

If this is not the area you meant to view, please return to our FAQ Page and find the section where you need some assistance.

I am new in the system; what are some good trainings to take?

All providers entering the IL Early Intervention System are required to complete the Systems Overview Training. The Training Program works very hard to develop training curriculum that reflects Illinois policies and procedures as well as best practices in the field of early intervention. In addition to the System Overview, any training activity sponsored by the IL Early Intervention Training Program is a good choice and is endorsed by the IL Bureau of Early Intervention. These activities are posted on our website with a green EI icon next to the event title. Online registration is available for these events. We'd recommend any of them. Some important sessions are "Key Principles in EI", "Assessment in EI", and "Hawaii Early Learning Profile". We also have a variety of online curriculum that are free of charge.

Other upcoming events posted to our website have been through the EI credit review process and based on the information reviewed have been determined to be appropriate to count towards your Illinois early intervention credential. However, the Training Program neither endorses, guarantees, nor promotes the content of those training events.

How many hours do I need to be a… DT/PT/OT/Service Coordinator/etc.?

We have a New to EI page on our site, but you should contact Provider Connections to get answers to questions about credentialing. They can give you a good idea of the hours you need, and then you can head to our website to find out how the Training Program can support you.

But… aren't you Provider Connections?

No. Though part of the same Illinois Early Intervention System, Provider Connections and the IL Early Intervention Training Program are not one and the same. Provider Connections and the IL Early Intervention Training Program are separate agencies with two different purposes and functions of the Illinois EI System.

Does a college course count toward my credentialing hours?

Please contact Provider Connections to gain a greater understanding of the types of coursework that will fulfill the credentialing requirements for your discipline.

Provider Connections said I need to fulfill the requirement for training on a Global Assessment tool, but I can't find it anywhere on your site. What is it?

The requirement is training on a Global Assessment tool which is a training on an approved Assessment tool. Specifically, the Training Program holds the 'Hawaii Early Learning Profile' or the 'BDI 2'. These sessions are both approved for Global Assessment. If you do not see either of these coming up in time for you to complete your credential you can look for other organizations that offer the training. Keep in mind that if another organization holds a session on the HELP or BDI 2 you will still need to submit that session for credit to the Early Intervention Training Program in order for Provider Connections to accept it.

Where do I go for the required Systems Training?

The Systems Overview training is currently offered in two learning formats. One is an 18-hour, 3-day face-to-face training offered three to four times across the State during the year. Please see the Training Program's website for training opportunities. The other option is to complete the Online System Overview training followed by a one-day, face-to-face, follow-up session. The Online System Overview Training component is available through the Training Program's website and allows participants the flexibility of working independently and at their own pace. Registration to the online training is open and gives registrants unlimited access to the training modules. The Follow-Up Session is offered minimally once each month somewhere in the State with online registration available also through the Training Program's website.

How do I register for training and how much will it cost?

Registration for all IL Early Intervention Training Program sponsored events is available through our website. Creating a log-in account on the Training Program's website allows for online registration and gives account holders access to their registration and attendance history of Training Program events. The majority of Training Program events have a $10 registration fee. Costs vary for special events, such as conferences, symposia, linked training series, etc.

I've completed the Online System Overview Training. How do I register for the One Day Follow-Up Session? Your website isn't letting me in to register.

In order to register for the System Overview One Day Follow-Up Session, you must have an account on the illinoiseitraining.org website. Please note that this is a different account than the one you used to access the online System Overview Training through Adobe. If you do not have an Illinois EI Training Program account, please create one here. If you have forgotten your login or password for the website, please click here, enter your email address and hit "Send Password".

Is it okay to register for the Online System Overview Follow-Up Session before I finish the online training course?

Yes it is; however, we ask that you do so only if you are certain that you will complete the online training component as required before attending the follow up session. Registration often fills for these events rather quickly and our goal is to ensure that those participants who have completed all of the requirements have the opportunity to attend. Please be respectful of other early interventionists.

Do I need to send in my application to Provider Connections before I can take the System Overview training?

You need to have at least completed the Online System Overview Training component before Provider Connections will accept your credential application.

When will I get called to work?

The IL Early Intervention System is not a hiring entity. Enrollment and a credential in this System is what recognizes you as an independent contractor and approved vendor of early intervention services within the IL Early Intervention System.

Will you let Provider Connections know that I've completed my training?

Though we share information with Provider Connections, EI Training Program registration and attendance data does not automatically transfer to Provider Connections. It is your responsibility to see that your training/continuing education documentation is delivered to the Provider Connections' office.
